Teleflex Canada Inc. is a company based in Richmond, BC, Canada that has earned a reputation as a world leader in the design and manufacture of hydraulic and thermal technology products for our target markets.

Revenues in 2004 exceeded C$150 million, with employment climbing to over 500 people. Our products are shipped to over 50 countries around the world, with approximately 70% destined for markets in the United States.

Reflecting its diverse product lines, our Richmond facility is organized into three divisions, Industrial Actuation Systems, Marine Actuation Systems, and Power Systems. The following are some of the products that are manufactured or engineered in Richmond, BC:

Industrial Actuation

  • Specialized hydraulic and electro-mechanical actuators supplied to engine manufacturers for applications such as pleasure boats
  • Ongoing R&D to pursue other industrial applications of actuator technology.

Marine Actuation

  • Branded hydraulic steering systems (such as SeaStar) for pleasure boats sold through marine distributors and retailers

Power Systems

  • Diesel-fueled water heaters (Proheat brand) for trucks and buses to preheat engine block (to ensure reliable starting in cold weather) and provide supplemental heat for the passenger compartment
  • MBU (Modern Burner Unit) for military heating and cooking applications
  • Diesel engine generators (Proheat brand) that provide air conditioning and auxiliary electrical power for long-haul trucks (manufactured in Sault St. Marie, Ontario)

 A Brief History

Teleflex Inc. is a diversified industrial company, specializing in the commercial, medical, and aerospace markets with global operations and customers worldwide. The company originally commenced operations in 1940 in Ontario as a manufacturer of aircraft control cables. A subsidiary established in Pennsylvania in 1942 outgrew the parent Corporation, and over time became the headquarters which presently has operations in 26 countries and revenues of approximately US$2.5 billion. 

  • In 1974, Teleflex Inc. purchased of the marine hydraulic steering line of business of from Capilano Engineering Ltd., in Vancouver, British Columbia creating Teleflex (Canada) Ltd.
  • In 1988 we moved from the original plant on West 2nd Avenue in Vancouver to our current location on No. 6 Road in Richmond. Since then our operations have expanded to encompass two adjacent buildings.
  • In 2000, we acquired Advanced Thermodynamics Inc. in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada.  This is the facility where our Auxiliary Power Units (APU’s) are manufactured. 
  • In 2002, Teleflex Canada Inc. (previously Ltd.) became an ISO 9001:2000 registered company.
